Employers' responsibility for work-related road safety
The Corporate Manslaughter Bill and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 came into force on 6th April 2008 and for the first time, companies and organisations can be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures.
Health and safety law requires employers and the self-employed to ensure so far as reasonably practicable the health, safety and welfare of all employees and to safeguard others who may be put at risk from their work activities. This includes when they are undertaking work-related driving activities.
The police can and will be involved in all investigations involving a work related death or serious injury. |
 |
| It is estimated that up to one third of all road traffic accidents involve someone who is driving on business at the time. |
